Common has spoken about his relationship with his daughter and the road to they’ve taken to get things into a better space in several interviews and in his memoir Let Love Have the Last Word. On “Show Me That You Love”, Common addresses that very personal subject again in rhyme. The video shows Com reminiscing about the days when his daughter was much younger and times seemed to be better. The stymied father tries to find out where it all might have gone wrong.
Common says of “Show Me That You Love”, “When I became a parent, I thought that I would be the one teaching my daughter. Boy was I wrong! My daughter has become one of my favorite teachers along with LIFE. This is a special one.”
Common’s 12th studio album, Let Love will be released on August 30, 2019.
