Health and Wellness as “10th Element of Hip Hop”
Brooklyn, New York – Today, Hip Hop Is Green, an organization and national tour founded by health activist Keith Tucker, made two major announcements: (1) That New York City will be an official leg of the tour and that, (2) “health and wellness” is now declared as the 10th element of Hip Hop (see the Hip Hop Declaration of Peace). The NYC kickoff, sponsored by Vegan Outreach, will take place at various venues in Harlem on Earth Day weekend, from Thursday, April 21 to Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, P.S. 197 John B. Russwurm School, MIST Harlem, and the Oberia Dempsey Multi Services Center; (addresses below). Tour highlights include the Health and Wellness: 10th Element of Hip Hop Ceremony, a vegan Hip Hop Green Dinner, a symposium, and a celebration. Confirmed participants include Hip Hop and NBA legends, chefs, and holistic practitioners who live a vegan lifestyle. Some participants include international Hip Hop artist STIC of dead prez, Lox rapper Styles P, Cold Crush Brothers’ Supreme Easy A.D., legendary New York City breaker Mr. Wave, NBA legend and Brooklyn native John Salley, chef and author Lauren Von Der Pool, internationally renowned holistic practitioner Queen Afua, raw vegan chef Chandra Lee, Harlem Grown founder Tony Hillary, and many others!
Since 2009, Hip Hop Is Green (HHIG) has served nutritious vegan meals to more than 4,000 youth and families in 10 cities. It seeks to create awareness about how to start and maintain healthy vegan lifestyles. It is noteworthy that many Hip Hop legends and pioneers will join HHIG to declare health and wellness as the 10th Element of Hip Hop. Tucker states that the declaration “naturally aligns with the aim of the Hip Hop Declaration of Peace – to ‘establish a foundation of Health, Love, Awareness, Wealth, Peace and Prosperity’ in communities throughout the world.”

Millions of young people are faced with severe health issues and hip hop culture is responding to those needs. Today, we are stepping up to fill a void by officially making Health and Wellness a permanent part of Hip Hop kulture. Our goal is to inform and inspire a whole new generation to make health and wellness most important in their lives.”
