If you copped the CD version of 4:44 or have a Tidal membership, you were treated to 3 bonus tracks that weren’t released on anywhere else. One of those cuts was “Adnis”, an ode Jay Z penned to his father Adnis Reeves. If the main track listing to 4:44 wasn’t personal enough, Jay drops the rap moniker and Shawn Corey Carter takes the mic to lay bare his feelings about the father that abandoned his family. Ultimately, Jay was able to reconcile with his father shortly before his passing in 2003.
The video features Oscar-winning Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali shadowboxing alone, presumably to represent Jay’s fight to grow up without his biological father.
