Brooklyn, NY
June 21st, 2007 The Room Service Group and Brooklyn Bodega announced today that by proclamation of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz June 23rd, 2007 will officially be named Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Day.
“Here in Brooklyn, we groove to every beat on the planet-and I have no doubt that the 3rd Annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival will be the hottest yet,” said Borough President Markowitz. “Everyone loves to argue about the birthplace of hip hop, but it’s undeniable that the “Brooklyn attitude” has made and continues to make our borough the epicenter of hip hop flavor.” Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
“Borough President Markowitz and his entire staff have been supportive of the Festival since our first year. It is a real honor to get the official blessing of the don of Brooklyn, the hardest working man in city politics, and the next mayor of NYC,” writes Festival Chair Wes Jackson. “In all seriousness, we are truly honored by this. Our mission has been and continues to be to establish a festival that represents Brooklyn and New York the way the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival represents the Big Easy and Louisiana. With this endorsement in I hand I think we are on our way.”
powerHouse Arena which hosted the Festival lead up events for Stax Records 50th Anniversary with The Large Professor and Ralph McDaniels added, “We are honored to participate in the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, to spread love of the culture and pay tribute to the borough that has long been home to the art. It is a pleasure to once again partner with Room Service Group/Brooklyn Bodega as we appreciate their dedication to and support of hip hop in its many forms-from music and dance to art and film. Everything they touch turns to gold.” -Miss Rosen, powerHouse Arena
