Early fans of the Black Eyed Peas, when they were underground, know that before Fergie, the first First Lady of the group was Kim Hill. What many don’t know, and has been speculated about, is why Hill wasn’t with the group when they broke through into the mainstream. Was there beef? Did the group replace the black girl with the white girl to appeal to a wider audience? Kim shuts down all of that speculation within the first few seconds of this self narrated mini documentary.
Simply put, she quit the group.
With the Black Eyed Peas growing success came new management and a label situation that pressured the group, and Kim in particular, in a way that made her resign from the group as they were on the cusp of becoming the worldwide mega sensation that we know today. The push from behind the scenes to move towards a more pop friendly sound is one of the reasons why Kim left the group. That new sound was a huge criticism from longtime fans when The Peas hit the mainstream. Kim details what happened from her point of view and is refreshingly not bitter about what happened and even supportive of her former bandmates.
