Lazee – Hold On Video

Mawuli Kulego aka Lazee, was born in 1985 and raised in Malm√∂, Sweden with his mom and two sisters. In 1998, his mother decided that Malmo didn’t provide the right environment for her son and sent Lazee to London where he could “become something”. Six years later finds Lazee back in Sweden with the ambition of finishing his first hip-hop album. Lazee discovered hip-hop in the early 90’s and at ten years old he wrote his first rhyme. Back then, it was just for fun. The big turning point came when he heard “Players Anthem” by Notorious B.I.G. During his years in London, Lazee recorded a mixtape named ”IT IS WHAT IT IS” which was hosted by famed DJ Kay Slay in NYC.

Back in Sweden, Lazee passionately spent most of his time in the studio recording, hooking up with Producer Ishi and together they began working on a new sound. A hybrid of hip-hop, house, grime and drum&bass, rock with a dash of R&B. This special blend was crowned by Lazee’s lyrical rhymes which are always delivered with high energy. It was this sound that attracted the attention of Sony Music Sweden, specifically with the track “Rock Away”, which would become the first single from his forthcoming album “Setting Standards’. When the single came out, it rushed the charts: #1 on iTunes; Smash Hit of the Week on NRJ; Voice Choice on The Voice; and Fresh on MTV, with over 120 spins a week. Lazee’s second single “Hold On” is a rock rap duet featuring fellow Swede Nevestore, went straight to 2nd place on the Sweden Official Charts and “Hold On” is the 1st single of his International Release 2009 that’s already been picked up in the UK, USA, Germany, France, and Japan.

Lazee is a hard working young man who’s been brought up with the knowledge that nothing comes for free. While his medium is hip-hop, he’s not only a hip-hop artist, he’s purely an entertainer. He has the confidence, attitude and, above all, the talent, to take him all the way to the top. In the words of producer, collaborator and friend Ishi: “The whole world is our playing field, and our goal is to make our mark”.

Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit heard a track from Lazee and reached out to him to work on some songs. Lazee flew over to Los Angeles a week after shooting the video for his second single “Hold On” in Tokyo, Japan.
