BMI PRESENTS 12TH ANNUAL UNSIGNED URBAN SHOWCASE IN ATLANTA
Hip-Hop iconoclast NAS, Prince of R&B Trey Songz & Capitol Records signee Novel to headline event April 23 at E.S.S.O Nightclub; Hosted by DJ Khaled
ATLANTA, April 8, 2009 – U.S. performing right organization BMI will present its 12th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase Thursday, April 23, featuring a combination of the recording industry’s eminent stars and most-promising unsigned talent. Staged at E.S.S.O Nightclub (1599 Memorial Drive, Atlanta, GA), the event begins at 9 p.m.; doors open at 8 p.m. The festivities are open to the public; attendees must be 21-years-old with valid identification. Headliners for the highly-anticipated night of music are inimitable MC NAS; mellifluous crooner Trey Songz; and multi-talented troubadour Novel, who will each bring their respective high-energy sounds. DJ Khaled will host the event.
Hopefuls from across the country vied for a chance to display their talent in front of Atlanta’s influential, superstar-spotting music community, and the showcase finalists were chosen by a group of top BMI songwriters, producers and industry executives from over 300 submissions. The contenders include songwriting siren Ryn Nicole (San Diego); genre-smashing showman Kameron Corvet (Atlanta); Source Magazine “hyped” MC Rain (NYC); and r&b wranglers 718 (NYC).
The night provides a unique opportunity for BMI affiliates to showcase before a room of industry professionals. The final four will perform for a panel of celebrity judges including singer/songwriter Dallas Austin (Madonna, TLC); Capitol Records Senior Vice President, Urban Music Leonard Brooks; MySpace Records President, Urban Music Marquis Collins; manager and Imani Entertainment Group CEO Manny Halley (clients include Keyshia Cole & Lyfe Jennings); Def Jam Recordings Executive Vice President Chris Hicks; Polo Grounds Music President and RCA Music Group Senior Vice President, Urban Bryan Leach; manager and Czar Entertainment CEO Jimmy Rosmond (clients include The Game, Gucci Mane & Pleasure P).
BMI will also present the Legends of ATL Award to a community leader, recognizing his or her contributions to the Atlanta music scene. Past recipients of the prestigious honor include Big Oomp, Organized Noize and Dallas Austin.
