The Room Service Group Signs On as New Media Marketing Partner
August 23rd, 2006
In the history of the Hip-Hop, few artists have had
as great an impact on the development and
progression of the art-form’s lyrical style as Rakim.
No serious discussion of the music’s greatest
performers is held without a deferential accounting of
his achievements, and no serious rap artist grips a
microphone without channeling some of his legend.
Fresh from headlining record breaking crowds in
Boston, New York’s Central Park and along the East
Coast, Rakim has announced a national tour hitting
25 major markets from Los Angeles to Washington DC
throughout the month of September. DJ Kid Capri will
be backing Rakim along with artists Ras Kass, Styles
P, Brother Ali and a host of other special guests.
The Room Service Group (RSG), the Brooklyn based
marketing and consulting firm, will be handling the
New Media and online marketing for the tour. RSG
will also aid corporate sponsorship solicitation and
relationship management. RSG has experienced great
success as one of the producers of the Brooklyn Hip
Hop Festival. This tour will mark their first nation-
wide initiative.
Additionally, Brooklyn creative collective, Brooklyn
Bodega (
www.brooklynbodega.com) will serve as the
online
headquarters for the tour and tour related content.
Among the interactive initiatives will be a unique
chance for upcoming artists to audition for a spot on
stage opening for the God MC. The Bodega will select
several markets and allow aspiring MC’s to virtually
audition for the opening slot via YouTube and
Myspace. James Blagden, Creative Director for
Brooklyn Bodega had this to say about the Bodega’s
involvement, “The Bodega considers it an honor to be
a part of his tour. Just as Rakim revolutionized hip-
hop from Paid in Full through The Master, online
social networks have revolutionized the way people
are introduced to new music. It’s incredible that a
legend of Rakim’s status is embracing this new
industry reality at such a grassroots level. Winning a
chance to open up for Rakim is a rare opportunity for
virtually any artist to possibly share a stage with a
true legend of Hip Hop”
The Bodega is also setting up ‘correspondents’ in
certain markets who will post reviews, video, and still
images from each night of the tour.
Interested artists and correspondents should check
