Brooklyn, NY, April 15th 2009
Brooklyn Bodega announced their first confirmation for the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.

Brooklyn’s own Smif N Wessun has officially joined the lineup. The legendary duo will be joining this year’s festivities taking place at the Fulton Ferry State Park on June 20th.

Tek and Steele, formerly known as the Cocoa Brovaz, are pillars of Hip-Hop’s Golden era, debuting on the scene in 1993 as members of the Boot Camp Clik. The duo made a memorable appearance on Black Moon’s Enta Da Stage then later released their own classic debut, Dah Shinin’. Since then, Smif N Wessun have continued to make music and tour the world. Their New York grit and hardcore underground appeal have weathered the ever fluctuating hip-hop landscape from gangsta rap, to shiny suits. From ringtone rappers to hipster rap, Smif N’ Wessun have stayed true to their sound resulting in a massive following the world over. They are currently prepping a new album for release this summer.

“As we prepare for the 5th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, I think it’s only right that Smif N Wessun are our first announcement. On more than one level they represent what the Festival is about. They repped Brooklyn before it became cool. Their longevity is something we hope to brag about one day. And as a part of Duck Down they are a beacon of entrepreneurship. Independent Hip-Hop and business done right,” writes BHF Executive Director Wes Jackson. “From our 1st year Duck Down has supported us. From Buckshot to Sean P[rice] to Smif N Wessun. I think we are gonna name this slot on the lineup the Duck Down slot. Like an endowed chair.”

The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival takes place on June 20th, 2009. At Empire Fulton Ferry State Park in DUMBO, Brooklyn. An all day celebration of Hip-Hop music and culture. Hip-Hop Family Day and performances. For more information visit www.brooklynbodega.com.
