Legendary Crew To Perform ’93 Til Infinity In Its Entirety At All Four RTB Dates
Souls Of Mischief are excited to announce that they will be one of premier performing acts for the 2011 Rock The Bells Festival. The legendary group, comprised of MCs A-Plus, Phesto, Opio and Tajai, will be performing at each of the scheduled Rock The Bells dates. The four shows will be on August 20th in Los Angeles, August 27th in San Francisco, September 3rd in New York, and September 10th in Boston. This is the 8th time Guerilla Union has put on the acclaimed summer hip-hop festival, and the first time Souls of Mischief will be performing as a part of the traveling festival.
Making things more exciting, not only will all members of Souls Of Mischief be accounted for, but they will be performing their most celebrated album, ’93 Til Infinity, in its entirety for the first time. “It’s going to be really cool to do the album full out for the first time,” says Tajai. “We’ve been touring for the last 20 years, so we’ve performed some of the songs a lot, but performing the full album will be an entirely new experience.” And the album’s performance is anticipated to be as epic as it is ephemeral, according to Tajai, who adds, “It’s going to be a real treat for the fans too, since we probably won’t do it ever again.”
Other notable acts will also be joining Souls Of Mischief, performing their own classics in their entirety, including Lauryn Hill playing The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Nas performing Illmatic, Mobb Deep running through The Infamous, and many more. “Guerilla Union is providing the ultimate platform for real hip-hop that isn’t happening anywhere else,” says Tajai. “Seeing names like Mobb Deep, GZA, and Nas… that’s some real army jacket rap! It takes me back to an era when New York was still raw.” Along with these show-stopping performances, Talib Kweli and Mos Def will be reuniting to perform as the duo Black Star and Wu-Tang Clan visionary RZA will be hosting a “36 Chambers Stage,” to discuss everything from Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) to martial arts to new acts.
In addition to reuniting for this special string of Rock The Bells performances, Souls Of Mischief members A-Plus and Opio are hard at work putting the finishing touches on a variety of their own projects. Up first, A-Plus will be releasing a series of four EP’s, each sampling and revisiting the catalog of a legendary rock group. The first EP will take on the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers with a project called Pepperspray. Opio is also putting the finishing touches on project, his sophomore solo LP Vulture’s Wisdom 2.0, which will be released in the coming months via the crew’s Hieroglyphics Imperium label.
