The Strength In Flavor All Styles Dance Battle showcases a one-day tournament style competition between the best dancers from all over the world. Expertly shot and edited from a four-camera shoot in HD video, Strength In Flavor is the first-ever street dance contest available on Blu-Ray. The affair took place at The DNA Lounge in San Francisco as part of Scion Dance Week, a proud sponsor of Strength In Flavor. Events that week honored Hip Hop History Month and were kicked off by a series of lectures and classes by the legends of the culture including Kool Herc, Zulu Gremlin, Cros1, and Mestre Urubu Malandro. The week’s final culmination was Strength In Flavor, with both a competition and afterparty hosted by Zulu Nation with a performance by the “Father of Hip Hop” DJ Kool Herc.
“Strength in Flavor is our temple of sweat and sound,” says host and creator Prem Kumta of the event. “It shows an unending devotion to the art of street dance and features not only the celebrated legends and masters of the art form, but the next generation.” Freestyle Session and Armory Massive dance luminary Cros1 calls Strength In Flavor “The MMA of dancing—it’s everybody against everybody.”
The DVD features jaw-dropping performances by dance heroes Machine Gone Funk’s Pharside and JSmooth, Orb + Free of Circle of Fire, Soul Shifters, Iron Monkey, the Dirty Pair, and more. Viewers have the option of watching the entire tournament or skipping to their favorite battles through the DVD’s interactive menu. Extras include dancer interviews and judges’ showcases. Above and beyond the $2,000 grand prize, the top four dance crews from the event will receive residual benefits for their performances: Flavor Group will award them with 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the DVDs.
