SubCon Prepares SubTalk Release on Eastern Conference!

New York, NY — SubCon also
known as Sub-Conscious) is both a connoisseur and creator of pure music. His
adept lyrical ability and remarkably solid delivery bring weight to his songs,
while the fluidity of his cadence gives way to a diverse array of impressive
rhyme schemes. Think that’s a mouthful? It’s all breezy to this New York native,
and SubCon has teamed with Eastern Conference to give Hip Hop fans a refreshing
perspective with his new album SubTalk.

After releasing various
independent projects in the late ‘90s with the group Sight Beyond Light, SubCon
set out to pursue a solo career in 2001. He released several singles and special
projects, including work with Bobbito Garcia’s Fruitmeat Records. In early 2005,
SubCon released The Holdoverz to prepare fans for the new full length
album SubTalk, slated for release on February 21.

Produced fully by SubCon’s
longtime friend DJ Eli, guest appearances on SubTalk stay in the family
as well. Poison Pen of the Stronghold Crew, Breezly Brewin of the Juggaknots,
and jazz songstress Tess Marsalis each grace the album with their exciting brand
of talent, making for a pleasurable musical journey. “I’m focused on
radiating the truth, bringing energy with music that doesn’t really get talked
about a lot,” explains SubCon. “I tried to be efficient and effective –
something funky, but still vulnerable enough without being a nerdy cliché. It’s
just real music.”

Bio

Sub-Conscious has been a dominant presence in the underground Hip Hop
circuit for several years. Born and raised in New York City, the wealth of
musical culture was engrained in him from birth. As he prepares to release his
new album SubTalk on Eastern Conference Records, SubCon is ready
to give the world of Hip Hop his melodic blend of lyricism and intellect.

In addition to his songwriting abilities, SubCon is a hard edged battle
emcee dedicated to proving he has more than just punchlines in his arsenal. He
is a three-time Bragging Writes champion, and still the only competitor to win
the competition in two states. He was in the Philly Blaze Battle, and he was a
finalist in the Boston Superbowl Battle, and the only emcee from New York to
become a finalist there.

SubCon’s 1997 debut album Full Spectrum Analysis was a collaboration with
his group Sight Beyond Light, and was released on the self-maintained label Low
Tech Records. SubCon began to terrorize New York’s open mic scene as both a poet
and a lyricist, making a name for himself as a skilled wordsmith and poised
battle champion. As respect grew for his skills, he released another single with
his crew called “New Beginnings” on the same imprint.

A year later they released another single called “Have Faith” on Deep Con
recordings. The growth of the Sight Beyond Light’s catalog was increasing, but
SubCon’s individual progression began to demand his full attention. His theatre
training from a performing arts high school began fermenting through his flows,
and his enigmatic stage presence won the attention of listeners who were
intrigued by his intricate rhyme schemes.

At that point in his career, a solo venture was almost inevitable. It
brought him to a decent position to display an enduring presence as an
independent artist. In 2001 Sub-Conscious collaborated with Yeshua Da PoEd to
release his debut solo single “Pushin’ Orbitz” on Head Bop records. The sales
weren’t through the roof, but the record validated his decisions to venture
solo. The buzz from this single earned him a spot on a number of mixtapes, as
well as a verse on DJ Logic’s Project Logic on Rope-a-Dope Records.

After jumping off the Cali leg of Logic’s tour that summer, and returned to
put out a full-length project called Lyric Luverz Deluxe on Low Tech Records in
2002. Even though it was done mixtape-style with SubCon rhyming over familiar
beats, it was received by fans as an album. The single from the project was
released on Bobbito Garcia’s imprint Fruitmeat Records. Both sides of the single
were produced by SubCon’s childhood friend DJ Eli, and the response forced the
duo to seriously evaluate the potential of their future work together. They
began formulating long term plans, and created the explosive single
“Bezerkowitz”, which featured Breezely Bruin from the Juggaknots. In early 2005,
SubCon released The Holdoverz as a prelude to his next full-length.

With the album SubTalk on the horizon, SubCon has put his all into
making a statement from the underground perspective. The album features guest
appearances from Poison Pen of the Stronghold Crew, Breezly Brewin of the
Juggaknots, and jazz songstress Tess Marsalis, and all production was done by
longtime friend DJ Eli. “I’m focused on radiating the truth, bringing energy
with music that doesn’t really get talked about a lot,” explains SubCon.

SubCon’s favorite track on the album is “Don’t Go”, which details his
challenges attaining proper attention within the culture. “It’s like I’m ready
to hang it up because of the frustrations it takes to do this sh*t
independently,” he says of the track. “I can’t just leave it alone because it’s
still in me. The music is a part of my life and there’s no way I can deny
that.”
